Parents, the old testament is rich with text that so often is relayed like a fairytale. It is our hope that your kids leave church on Sundays knowing that the Bible is God’s living word, it is inspired by the Holy Spirit, and every single passage is absolutely true. What a joy it is to share our heritage with the precious children we’ve been blessed with.

Parents, praise God for his mercy and grace! Jesus fulfilled the law and is the yes and amen to all of God’s promises. His ascension into heaven fills us with joy and hope as we look forward to the day that our faith is made sight and our voices join the heavenly host in worship.

Parents, Easter is fast approaching! In March and April, we’re going to walk through the life of Jesus with your little ones. We’re so very excited to pour into the kiddos and share with them the gospel message. We’re praying that every child that comes into the classrooms is softened to the gospel and that one day, they will be redeemed by the blood of Jesus.

Scripture Text: The Passover with the Disciples

17 Now on the first day of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Where will you have us prepare for you to eat the Passover?” 18 He said, “Go into the city to a certain man and say to him, ‘The Teacher says, My time is at hand. I will keep the Passover at your house with my disciples.’” 19 And the disciples did as Jesus had directed them, and they prepared the Passover.

20 When it was evening, he reclined at table with the twelve. 21 And as they were eating, he said, “Truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me.” 22 And they were very sorrowful and began to say to him one after another, “Is it I, Lord?” 23 He answered, “He who has dipped his hand in the dish with me will betray me. 24 The Son of Man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born.” 25 Judas, who would betray him, answered, “Is it I, Rabbi?” He said to him, “You have said so.”

Institution of the Lord's Supper

26 Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” 27 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, 28 for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.”

Luke 2:41-52 (ESV)

Scripture Text: 41 Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover. 42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up according to custom. 43 And when the feast was ended, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents did not know it, 44 but supposing him to be in the group they went a day's journey, but then they began to search for him among their relatives and acquaintances, 45 and when they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem, searching for him. 46 After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. 47 And all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. 48 And when his parents saw him, they were astonished. And his mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us so? Behold, your father and I have been searching for you in great distress.” 49 And he said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father's house?” 50 And they did not understand the saying that he spoke to them. 51 And he went down with them and came to Nazareth and was submissive to them. And his mother treasured up all these things in her heart.

52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.

Parents, the first 9 weeks of this year we are going to be walking day by day through the story of creation with your kiddos. Day 6 will be broken into 3 lessons. As we do this, we will also be practicing catechisms and scripture memorization. We will have sticker charts for the kids to help us track their progress because we want to be effective partners in the discipleship of your little ones. The material being used is adapted from the Truth and Grace Memory Books by Tom Ascol. We are so excited to see the Lord work in Little Reformers and our prayer is that the Spirit will move in your kiddos and bring them to salvation.

Scripture Text: The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”  Now out of the ground the Lord God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” Genesis 2:15-23 (ESV)

Scripture Text: Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation. Genesis 2:1-3 (ESV)

Scripture Text: Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth.” And it was so. And God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night—and the stars. Bible Story: The Birth of Jesus

Bible Reading: Luke 2:4-20

Bible Point: Our Redeemer is Born

Questions to ask:

- How does the birth of Jesus give us hope?

- Why did Jesus need to be born?

- How can we show Jesus we are thankful to him?

Parents, joy to the world, our Savior has come! For the last 10 weeks, we’ve been sharing with our kiddos how big biblical moments were pointing us to this one; the moment that King Jesus clothed himself in frail humanity and began the journey that would lead him to the cross. We know that without His birth and without His humanity, our souls would be without hope. He humbled Himself before the throne of the Father- the King of the universe had to have his diapers changed. The Lord Almighty had his toddler boo boos kissed by His mommy. The Creator had to be fed, He had to be laid down for naps, He was held through the discomfort of teething, His momma rocked him through raging fevers. He was fully human. This week, talk with your little ones about how Jesus walked perfectly even though he was plagued by the limits of humanity. It is sobering to ponder on just how much Jesus stepped away from so that He could claim victory over sin and satan. Praise be to Jehovah Jireh for providing a way!

Bible Story: John the Baptist

Bible Reading: Matthew 3:1-12

Bible Point: Jesus is Better than John the Baptist

Questions to ask:

-How does this scripture point us to the gospel?

-How did John the Baptist prepare the Jews for the coming of Jesus?

-How is Jesus better than John the Baptist?

Moms, can you imagine your babies jumping in the womb at the presence of Jesus? Dads, can you imagine raising strong men who will share the good news of Jesus without hesitation? What a blessing John the Baptist must’ve been to Elizabeth and Zechariah- though I’m sure they too had moments where they rubbed their faces in exasperation at the shenanigans of their boy. It is my prayer that we raise kids who like John the Baptist, are unapologetic as they speak the truth of the Word, yet are earnestly humble that their own deeds don’t even qualify them to tie the laces of our Savior’s shoes. God used John’s ministry to prepare the way of the Lord but even his dedication in his ministry could not save him; God blessed him with an unwavering faith in the salvation of Jesus and the very moment that the sword separated his head from his body, John’s faith was made sight. Jesus is the redeemer that John preached. Jesus is the better John.

Bible Story: Josiah

Bible Reading: 2 Chronicles 34:1-33

Bible Point: Jesus is the Better Josiah

Questions to ask:

-How does this scripture point us to the gospel?

-How did God convict Josiah?

-How is Jesus better than Josiah?

Parents, the story of Josiah might be one of my favorites. God worked through the heart of a little child to purge wickedness from Judah. Manasseh and Amon, Josiah’s grandfather and father, were evil men and under their reign, there were many altars raised to idols and the temple of God was left in disrepair. Josiah treasured God’s law even though he was brought up in a household that despised God and indulged in heinous immoralities. This is a beautiful opportunity to explain to your kiddos that you don’t have to be an adult to obey God, obedience to God is a choice regardless of what everyone around you is doing, and that even in their youth, our kids can be an example “in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.” 1 Tim 4:12. Pray for your kids that the word of God would pierce their hearts like it did Josiah’s and that they would stand firm in the face of persecution. Remind your kids though that even though Josiah was a godly king, he cannot be our Eternal King. Josiah was only able to temporarily purge evil from Judah. Jesus is better than Josiah because he purges sin from our heart.

Bible Story: David

Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 16:1-13; 1 Samuel 17:1-54; Psalm 23

Bible Point: Jesus is the Better David

Questions to ask:

-How does this scripture point us to the gospel?

-How did God use David?

-How is Jesus better than David?

Parents, can you imagine being given the title of “Man after God’s own heart”? David was a hot mess; his sins were many- adultery, lying, and murder to name a few. Yet, he came before the throne of God with a sincere, contrite heart and sought the forgiveness of the righteous God whom he sinned against. But even the Man after God’s own heart was incapable of being a redeemer. Jesus is better than David because Jesus lived a life without sin and delivers his people from the greatest enemy, Satan.

Bible Story: Gideon

Bible Reading: Judges 6-7:25

Bible Point: Jesus is the Better Gideon

Questions to ask:

-How does this scripture point us to the gospel?

-Why was Gideon scared to go to battle?

-How is Jesus better than Gideon?

Parents, this week we talked about Gideon and how God used him to rescue Israel from the hands of the Midianites. Gideon was scared. Gideon doubted God’s sovereignty but Gideon didn’t run away because of his fear, he asked God to prove His faithfulness. This is a great opportunity to talk to your kids about a time when you were scared to do what God called you to. Tell them your response to God’s will. How did it end? What did you learn? Reiterate to your kids that God was faithful to you just like He was to Gideon and just like He will be to them. Pray for your kids that God would increase their faith and decrease their fear. Point your kids to the gospel by reminding them that Jesus is better than Gideon because Jesus obeyed God without question. Jesus had faith in God’s plan and submitted Himself to the will of God.
